Right then, we have our first finalist in Quetta Gladiators, and the second finalist will be decided over the next two days. First up is Eliminator 1 on Thursday, 22nd May, where Karachi Kings will take on Lahore Qalandars. The loser will be knocked out, while the winner will advance to face Islamabad United for a spot in the final. The game will start at 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT). See you then. Cheers!
Faheem Ashraf is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his stellar all-round showing.
Earlier, after opting to bat first, it didn’t seem like Quetta Gladiators would get to 209, especially when they were 113/5 beyond the halfway mark. However, a spirited fightback from Avishka Fernando, Dinesh Chandimal, and Faheem Ashraf helped them stage a remarkable recovery and post a daunting total on the board.
In Islamabad’s chase of 210, it was a story of batters getting starts but failing to build on them. An early setback came with the dismissal of Alex Hales, and although Sahibzada Farhan and Rassie van der Dussen looked promising, Quetta kept chipping away and never allowed a substantial stand to develop. The departure of Salman Agha proved to be the final nail in the coffin for United.
Quetta Gladiators are through to the final! It will be their first appearance in the summit clash since lifting their maiden and only title six years ago. As for Islamabad United, they came into this clash riding high on momentum but fell short against the side that topped the league stage. They will now have one more shot at reaching the final when they play in Eliminator 2.
