Alright then, that wraps up the action from the 12th match of PSL 2025, where Multan Sultans finally opened their account with a solid 33-run win over Lahore Qalandars, putting an end to their losing streak. But there’s no time to rest, as Multan Sultans will be back in action on 23rd April, Wednesday, taking on Islamabad United at the same venue, Multan Cricket Stadium, in the 13th match of the tournament. The match begins at 8.30 PM IST (3 PM GMT), but don’t forget to join us an hour early for all the pre-match buzz, toss updates, and team lineups. Until then, take care and see you soon.. Cheers! Adios!
Yasir Khan is PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his impressive match-winning inning. He says that he has worked hard for this day, and their team needed a knock like this, and he is happy. Adds that he has practised a lot to face different kinds of bowling, and that has helped him a lot. Mentions that he knows his strengths and capabilities and knows that he can hit a six over long on as well as over mid-wicket, so he tries to execute his plans. Says that he was waiting for his opportunity and wanted to make the most of it. Ends by saying that the flick shot for six against Shaheen Afridi was his favourite of the lot.
The skipper of Multan Sultans, Mohammad Rizwan, says that in their previous matches, they didn't field well, but today they were brilliant. Tells they executed their bowling today, which they lacked in the previous matches. Shares they carried the momentum today with the bat, Usman Khan did the job to carry on the intent, which was much needed. Reckons their bowling department is a bit inexperienced and that's why he tries to stay around them, and he didn't do the keeping because of that.
It is time for the Post Match Presentations...
The skipper of Lahore Qalandars, Shaheen Afridi, says that it was tough conditions for the bowlers, and they tried different things, but it didn't work. Adds that young Yasir Khan batted really well, and credit goes to him. Praises Sam Billings and Sikandar Raza for the way they batted, and they are called the Qalandars because they never lose hope. Mentions that Rishad Hossain has bowled well, but unfortunately, it was a flat wicket, and he didn't get much help. However, he expects better wickets as the tournament moves on and hopes for some turn for the spinners as well. End by saying that we are still early in the season, and he doesn't want to point out any mistakes in this game.
All in all, a dominating performance from Multan Sultans, who will be relieved to finally get those two points. This win could be a turning point in their season. As for Lahore Qalandars, they have some serious questions to answer, especially about their batting order and bowling plans.
Earlier in the first inning, Multan’s batters set the tone with a fantastic batting performance. Opting to bat first, they made full use of the conditions and posted a mammoth 228/5. Yasir Khan was the star of the show, playing a sensational knock of 87 off just 44 balls, just short of a century, but a true match-defining innings. He was supported well by Usman Khan, skipper Mohammad Rizwan, and in the final overs, Iftikhar Ahmed, who provided a perfect finish with some late fireworks in an inning of 40 runs. For Lahore, the bowling was way below par. Their plans never really worked, and Haris Rauf had a forgettable outing, conceding 54 runs in just three overs, as the Multan batters had no mercy and took him apart with ease. Though Rishad Hossain managed to grab a couple of wickets late in the innings, the damage had already been done. Multan ended strong, and Iftikhar's big hits in the death overs ensured Lahore were always chasing the game.
As for Multan's bowling, they were sharp and effective. Ubaid Shah led the attack with three key wickets, while Usama Mir and Michael Bracewell chipped in with two each. The bowlers stuck to their plans and took full advantage of the scoreboard pressure. With a big total behind them, it allowed them to bowl with freedom, and they did a great job keeping the Qalandars batters in check throughout.
Sam Billings did show some fight with a quickfire 43, smashing a couple of big sixes to briefly lift Lahore's hopes. But the asking rate kept rising, and his dismissal only made things worse. A questionable move from the Qalandars’ camp was sending Sikandar Raza so late in the order, even after Rishad Hossain. Raza looked in good touch and stayed till the end, playing some few beautiful shots to at least reduce the margin of defeat, an effort that might be crucial when NRR comes into play later in the tournament. He deserves credit for that gritty knock of fifty under pressure.
Chasing 229 was always going to be a tough mountain to climb for Lahore Qalandars, and unfortunately, their batting unit couldn’t live up to the challenge. They had a decent start with Fakhar Zaman playing a few crisp shots in the Powerplay. But by the end of those six overs, both openers were back in the pavilion, and Qalandars were already in a difficult position. The middle-order duo of Abdullah Shafique and Daryl Mitchell tried to rebuild and go after the target, but the pressure of the climbing required rate forced them into risky shots, and both perished trying to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Multan Sultans have finally broken their losing streak in style with a dominant win of 33 runs in PSL 2025, and this victory could be the spark they needed to get their campaign back on track. Right from the first ball, Multan were clinical in every department. Defending a massive score of 228 runs gave them the cushion to experiment, control the game with field settings, and apply pressure with smart bowling. And they did all of that brilliantly, securing a much-needed win and a massive confidence boost.
