Right then, that is it from this contest and Lahore Qalandars, in their 100th PSL match, have reigned supreme against Multan Sultans and have moved up in the points table. Next up, it is a clash between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi that will be played on Sunday, 27 April in Lahore. That game will begin at 8.30 pm IST (3 pm GMT), but you can join us a lot sooner for the build-up. Cheers!
The skipper of Lahore Qalandars, Shaheen Afridi, is up for a chat. Shaheen says the wicket looked like a seaming deck but after 2-3 overs it started to come onto the bat nicely. Credits Tom Curran for being disciplined and helping the team contain the opponents. Mentions that they are looking to improve on every ocassion and the needs to improve with both bat and ball going ahead in the tournament..
Daryl Mitchell is the Player of the Match. He starts by saying that the amount of grass didn't make any difference in terms of sideways movement and tried to build partnerships. Goes on to applaud Abdullah Shafique for setting things up and then also applauds Sikandar Raza for the way he played. Ends by saying that it is the job of a number 4 batter to pull through for the team.
The Presentation ceremony...
Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan is down for a chat. He acknowledges that 150-160 was a winning score on this ground. However, Rizwan emphasized that dropping catches has been a major issue, and even defending 250 wouldn't be enough if they continue to do so. He praised Hasnain and Josh Little for giving Multan a good start with the new ball. Nevertheless, Rizwan highlighted the team's struggles in the death and middle overs, where they lack effective bowlers to pick crucial wickets.
Earlier in the game, Shaheen Afridi put Multan Sultans into bat. Multan got off to a sluggish start as Mohammad Rizwan was unable to get the boundaries away. Lahore Qalandars didn't get many wickets but kept things tight before Rizwan and Kamran Ghulam launched a late onslaught. Both scored half-centuries and remained unbeaten as the skipper top-scored with 76.
Multan Sultans will feel they've let go of this contest and surely, with 185 runs on the board, they would have been ecstatic at the innings break. Their pacers were very solid at the start, and Muhammad Hasnain even picked up a wicket. Ubaid Shah then got a couple of wickets himself in the middle phase before things started to go down the hill and Multan simply never recovered.
186 wasn't a simple score to gun down and the Qalandars came aggressively out of the blocks. However, they didn't get much success and it was the middle order that picked up the pieces. Abdullah Shafique played a steady hand, after which Daryl Mitchell and Sikandar Raza came to the party and put on a massive stand, shifting gears at the right moment as well. Mitchell scored 64 off just 38 balls but got out with a couple of runs needed as Raza remained unbeaten on 40 and hit the winning run.
Lahore Qalandars have clinched it! A solid chase from the Qalandars as they now get their third win of the season and move to 2nd place in the points table. Multan, on the other hand, suffer their 5th defeat in 6 matches and are on the verge of getting knocked out of the playoffs race.
