Ravichandran Ashwin is the Player of the Match for his 3 wickets and his knock of 83 runs!
Earlier in the evening, Trichy Grand Cholas posted 140/9 after being sent in to bat first, but never truly got going. Waseem Ahmed's 36 and Jafar Jamal's explosive 33 gave them a platform, but wickets kept tumbling in clumps. Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers with 3/28 while Varun Chakravarthy picked up 2/19. The last 5 overs didn’t bring many runs, and a total under 150 was always going to be under-par in Dindigul.
Trichy’s bowling lacked bite, control, and variation, as they allowed Dindigul batters to settle in with poor lines and lengths. K Easwaran took two wickets in the last overs while Athisayaraj Davidson and Saravana Kumar managed one wicket each, but were expensive, and the damage was already done by Ashwin earlier. Also, the fielding didn’t help either, as misfields and dropped catches summed up a disappointing second innings.
Ashwin made his intentions clear right from the start as he tore into the bowling with elegant drives and fearless lofted shots. He smashed 83 off 48 balls and looked in a different league altogether. Shivam Singh chipped in with a quick 16 to form an opening fifty partnership with Ashwin, and Baba Indrajith remained unbeaten on 27 to complete the job. It was a chase that looked more like a net session with hardly any pressure on the batters.
Dindigul Dragons have booked their place in Qualifier 2 with a commanding 6-wicket win over Trichy Grand Cholas in this Eliminator. Chasing a modest target of 141, they never looked in trouble and wrapped things up in just 16.4 overs. It was a ruthless show led by their skipper Ashwin, who played a sparkling knock and also shone with the ball. Trichy were sloppy, lacked intent in the field, and simply didn’t turn up for the big occasion.
