Former Mumbai Indians spinner Rahul Chahar has praised Rohit Sharma’s leadership, recalling how the legendary skipper always stood by his bowlers, even on tough days.
Rohit’s Leadership Style
Rohit Sharma, one of the most successful captains in IPL history with five titles, is admired not only for his tactical brilliance but also for the trust he shows in his players. Beyond strategy, he is known for creating a supportive environment where young cricketers feel comfortable and confident.
Chahar, who made his name while playing under Rohit at MI, said the biggest strength of the former skipper lies in the unwavering belief he places in his bowlers.
“The amount of confidence Rohit Sharma gives to a bowler is very important. That’s what makes him a true leader — trusting his players,” Chahar told Filmygyan.
How Rohit Calms Pressure Moments
The leg-spinner revealed that Rohit has a unique way of easing pressure. Instead of discussing cricket when a bowler struggles, he often lightens the moment with casual chats.
“If a six is hit off my bowling, he comes over, puts his hand on my shoulder, and says something random, not even about cricket, just to relax me. He’ll say, ‘Chill, it’s fine,’ and that really helps,” Chahar shared.
A Gesture to Remember
Chahar played a crucial role in MI’s title wins in 2019 and 2020 before moving to Punjab Kings in 2022. Ahead of IPL 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad picked him up for ₹3.20 crore.
He recalled one special moment that highlighted Rohit’s faith in his players.
“I still remember a semifinal against Delhi. I went for 30 runs in two overs. After the game, Rohit came to me and said, ‘Come on, you lead the team.’ That’s his way of giving confidence. I’ll never forget that gesture,” Chahar said.
