India’s star batter, Rinku Singh, who has been selected for the Asia Cup 2025, opened up about a traumatic childhood experience that left a physical difference in his hands due to a monkey attack.
Coming from humble beginnings, Rinku’s rise to stardom in Indian cricket is nothing short of inspirational. He became a household name after a spectacular performance in the 2023 Indian Premier League, where he hit five sixes in the final over against Gujarat Titans, leading his team to victory. This remarkable feat earned him a call-up to the national team, and he has since established himself as a vital member of India’s T20I squad.
A Life-Changing Incident
In a recent interview on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Rinku recalled a traumatic event from his childhood that would change his life forever.
He shared a chilling account of being attacked by a monkey while walking with his brother and a friend during the rainy season. “We didn’t have a washroom at home, so we used to go to the fields. It was a rainy day, and we were walking with an umbrella. Suddenly, someone shouted, ‘The monkey has come!’ Before we knew it, the monkey attacked me from behind and pinned me down. It kept biting me again and again, tearing out a lot of my flesh. There was no one around to help. My brother was throwing stones at the monkey, but it wouldn’t leave me,” Rinku recalled.
The brutal attack caused a significant physical difference in his hands, a reminder of the horrific experience.
Rinku’s Recent Form and Asia Cup 2025
Despite the scars of his past, Rinku has proven to be a talented and resilient player, known for his power-hitting abilities. He often plays key cameos, helping his team reach big totals or chase down challenging targets. However, his form has recently been under scrutiny, with just one fifty in his last 13 T20I innings.
Nevertheless, Rinku has earned a spot in India’s 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025. While his place in the playing XI is uncertain, his inclusion in the squad speaks to his potential and the trust the selectors have in his abilities.
India’s Asia Cup 2025 Campaign
India’s campaign in the Asia Cup 2025 kicked off on September 9, with their first match scheduled for September 10 against the United Arab Emirates. All eyes will be on Rinku as he looks to make a mark in this prestigious tournament.
