ICC Fines Mohammed Siraj for ‘Provocative Gesture’ After Duckett Dismissal on Day 4

Mohammed Siraj found himself in hot water after an intense Day 4 at Lord’s. The Indian pacer was fined 15% of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct following his fiery send-off to England opener Ben Duckett.

The incident occurred during the sixth over of England’s second innings, when Siraj dismissed Duckett for 12. As emotions ran high, Siraj celebrated with a charged reaction that was deemed provocative under Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

What Happened?

Duckett attempted to take Siraj on with an aggressive shot but mistimed it, sending the ball straight to Jasprit Bumrah at mid-on. Siraj, pumped with adrenaline, celebrated animatedly—an act the ICC found to be in violation of its rules regarding “gestures or language which could provoke an aggressive response.”

One Demerit Point Added to Siraj’s Record

Along with the fine, Siraj also received one demerit point. This was his second demerit point within a 24-month period. Four or more demerit points in that span could result in suspension, so Siraj now walks a tighter disciplinary line going forward.

Day 5 Set for Thriller at Lord’s

While Siraj made headlines off the field, the on-field battle between India and England remains evenly balanced. After bundling England out for 192 in their second innings—thanks to Washington Sundar’s career-best overseas figures of 4/22—India were left chasing 193.

But England fought back hard. With 15 minutes left on Day 4, Stokes removed nightwatchman Akash Deep, leaving India at 58/4 at stumps.

India Still in the Hunt for a 2-1 Lead

India now need 135 runs on the final day with six wickets in hand. With KL Rahul and Shubman Gill already back in the pavilion, the pressure will be on the middle order. A tense finish to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test at Lord’s is all but guaranteed.
