Pakistan’s T20I series loss to Bangladesh, captain Salman Ali Agha pointed to both poor execution and pitch conditions, stating that the surfaces were not suitable for preparing for major tournaments like the Asia Cup and World Cup.
Poor Execution, Not Just the Pitch, Says Salman
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Salman didn’t shy away from admitting that Pakistan underperformed. However, he emphasized that the nature of the pitches played a part in the team’s struggles.
“These pitches are not ideal for preparing for the Asia Cup and World Cup. I don’t think we will get such wickets going forward,” he said.
“It’s true we couldn’t perform the way we should have in this series.”
Despite the loss, Salman reiterated that the team must learn to adapt and perform in all types of conditions.
“I don’t think we’ll face such conditions later, and whatever comes our way, our job is to perform. We shouldn’t focus too much on conditions,” he added.
Building Process Underway, Consistency the Next Step
Salman acknowledged that Pakistan is still in the team-building phase, but believes they are heading in the right direction. He admitted the execution of plans wasn’t up to standard and consistency remains a key area of improvement.
“We had assessed things, but our execution wasn’t there. The team we are trying to build is on the right track,” he stated.
“Our consistency is not where it should be. We discuss it, and we’re working on it.”
Captaincy Pressure? Not a Concern for Salman
Addressing questions about his own form and leadership, Salman firmly rejected any claims of decline in his performance.
“Since becoming captain, my performance has improved a lot. I’m on the right track,” he said confidently.
“Everyone learns and evolves. As for the talks about my poor performance — that is absolutely not true.”
Despite the series defeat, Salman Ali Agha remains optimistic, maintaining that the team is developing steadily and will be better prepared for the challenges of the Asia Cup and World Cup.
