Dewald Brevis has praised MS Dhoni’s humility and recalled cherished memories from his short but impactful stint with Chennai Super Kings during IPL 2025.
Brevis’ Breakthrough With CSK
Known as ‘Baby AB’, Brevis joined CSK as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh when the franchise was struggling mid-season. The move turned into a masterstroke as the South African youngster immediately made his presence felt.
In six appearances, the 22-year-old smashed 225 runs at a fiery strike rate of 153, lacing his innings with 13 boundaries and 17 sixes. He also notched up two half-centuries, cementing himself as a trump card for the five-time champions.
Memories With MS Dhoni
Speaking to AB de Villiers on YouTube, Brevis opened up about his “incredible” IPL journey, particularly his time spent with the CSK dressing room.
“I’ll always remember it. Whenever I tell people, I say it was amazing. My four years [in the IPL] have been special, and playing for CSK was just incredible,” Brevis said.
He highlighted Dhoni’s grounded nature as the quality that stood out the most.
“The one thing I can just say from MS [Dhoni] is his humbleness and who he is as a person. How he is off the field, the time he has for players, for people—that’s what struck me,” Brevis added.
Dhoni’s Door Always Open
Sharing a heartwarming detail, Brevis revealed how approachable the CSK icon was throughout the tournament.
“His room door is always open. The only time it’s closed is when he’s asleep. I found myself a few times just sitting in his room—chatting about his hobbies, watching cricket with him. To see how he is off the field, after knowing what he has achieved on it, is something very special,” Brevis said.
The youngster concluded by emphasizing how those moments with Dhoni are memories he’ll carry forever, adding yet another layer to the legend’s legacy of leadership and humility.
