Right then, that is it from this exciting contest where MI New York gets their first win of the season, while Seattle Orcas still have to wait to open their account. There is a one-day break as the action in the MLC 2025 now moves to Dallas. It will be the two unbeaten sides, Texas Super Kings taking on the San Francisco Unicorns on Saturday, 21st June. That will begin at 12 am GMT, but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the match. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Nicholas Pooran, the victorious skipper of MI New York says that he is really happy as they are on board with their first points in this campaign. Continues that they are facing the same challenges while bowling. They are bowling really well but slipping runs at the death. He also praises the way Monank Patel played and says he takes responsibility for the team. Credits Bracewell and Pollard for the finish.
Monank Patel is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his match-winning 93 off 50. He says that he is very happy with the win, and they fought till the end to get the two points here. Adds that they have seen in the last few games that scoring in the Powerplay of the second innings has been a bit tough. Mentions that he has had a conversation with the batting coach, and he wants to take some time, as it is his template, and he wants to stick to it. Ends by saying that it will be wonderful to play international cricket at this ground.
Presentation Time...
Heinrich Klaasen, the captain of Seattle Orcas, says that he is happy with his batters. The start of the inning was a bit sloppy, but afterward his team managed it really well. He reckons that they bowled well but haven't had the luck on their side. Ends up saying it would have been easier for him if he had one more seamer in their playing XI, but now they have to think about the future.
Seattle Orcas will be extremely disappointed with their performance. The trend at this venue has favoured teams batting first, and with a solid total on the board, they were in a good position. However, sloppy fielding and missed opportunities proved costly. Sikandar Raza was impressive with the ball, picking up a couple of crucial wickets, while Kyle Mayers chipped in with one. But the fielders simply didn’t support the bowlers. The momentum completely shifted in the end, with the ball seemingly chasing Harmeet Singh - first conceding a boundary, then dropping a crucial catch off Kieron Pollard, which ultimately swung the game out of their grasp.
Earlier in the game, Seattle Orcas registered their first-ever 200-plus total in MLC history. After a cautious start, Kyle Mayers brought out his Caribbean flair, smashing a brilliant 88 off just 46 balls, with Shayan Jahangir giving him solid support at the other end. Shimron Hetmyer and Heinrich Klaasen then added the finishing touches with a late flurry. For MINY, Naveen-ul-Haq claimed a couple of wickets but was expensive, while Michael Bracewell, Trent Boult, and Sunny Patel managed one wicket apiece.
Despite the early loss of QDK, MI New York got off to a steady start with Monank Patel and Michael Bracewell anchoring the innings. They kept pace with the required rate, regularly finding boundaries to ease the pressure. Like the game against TSK, Patel took some time to settle in, but once he found his rhythm, there was no stopping him. He powered his way to a brilliant 93 off just 50 balls, putting on a 119-run stand with the Kiwi all-rounder. Nicholas Pooran couldn't make much of an impact, but Bracewell held firm at one end, bringing up a well-crafted fifty and staying unbeaten. Kieron Pollard then added the finishing touches with a handy cameo, taking MINY over the line with an over to spare.
MI New York finally gets off the mark in this campaign! A thrilling contest to wrap up the Oakland leg of MLC, and it’s the Men in Blue who came out on top, registering the highest successful chase in the league. For the Seattle Orcas, the struggles continue - they just can’t seem to catch a break. This marks their eighth consecutive loss in the tournament, including five from last season. They'll need to regroup quickly if they hope to turn things around this time.
