That ends another double header in The Hundred. The Spirit beat the Originals in the Women's competition but the Originals in the Men's got their first home win after 6 straight defeats. They play their next game pretty quickly, on Wednesday, 13th August, 2025, in Cardiff, against Welsh Fire. London, on the other hand, need to gather some good spirit as they head back home to host Trent Rockets at Lord's on Thursday, 14th August, 2025. Tuesday, 12th August, 2025 sees Birmingham Phoenix take on Oval Invincibles at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The Women's game is scheduled to kick off at 2 pm GMT while the Men's clash is scheduled at 5.30 pm GMT. But our buildup will begin well in advance. So do tune in early. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Manchester Originals' SONNY BAKER HAS BEEN ADJUDGED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH, for his wonderful spell of 1/21 in 20 balls, with 10 dots, 5 of which came in the first 5 itself. Calls this a massive win. Admits that Manchester had a tough start to the competition but calls this a great turnaround, specially against a good side. On his own plans, Baker says that he just tried to bowl fast, especially against the left handers, trying to make the ball move away. Smiles and cheekily adds that he just tried not to bowl too wide. On David Warner, Sonny says that Warner is a really tough competitor and has been great over the years. Details that he was trying to keep the line within the stumps as if you bowl too wide, he cuts the ball away. On being a part of the team, Baker says that in the first game of the season, he had the honour of bowling alongside the great James Anderson from the Jimmy Anderson end and that was unreal. Admits that he didn't get much chances in the last season due to injury but now, hopes that he can do well in this season. On his pace exploits, SB says that ever since he was young, he had always looked to bowl fast. Adds that it will be a personal challenge for him to keep that pace up and get ranked alongside the big guys.
Earlier in the game, Manchester Originals flew high after winning the toss. They were 57/1 after 25 balls, but managed just 106/5 in the next 75. However, that turned out to be enough in the end. Youngster Ben McKinney dominated the fielding restrictions while Phil Salt and Jos Buttler played useful hands. London Spirit came back superbly towards the end but that early burst in the Powerplay cost them.
Full marks to Manchester Originals with the ball. Phil Salt would have gunned for early wickets but even though his bowlers did not give him those, he would have been very happy with the tone set. Sonny Baker bowled the first 10 balls on the trot of which, the first 5 were dots! He was backed up well by Josh Tongue and then, even Scott Currie. However, the spinners and Lewis Gregory let the game loose but Tongue came back and finished the game off, with a 3-fer.
No wonder Australia are struggling to find a replacement for David Warner. He was on 27 (24) around the completion of the 6th set. Hammered 44 in the next 26 balls before getting out on the 27th. He seemed to be batting on a different planet altogether, as he survived a tough opening phase and tried to make up for lost ground. He fought hard till the 18th set, but got dismissed via a soft dismissal, down the leg side. Had he found a partner like a Williamson after the first wicket, like an Overton at the other end, maybe, the result might have been different. He finished with 71, but the next best was 19 - joint by Kane Williamson and Jamie Overton - that's how slow the pitch had become. If it had not been for Warner, the margin of defeat would have been probably over 50 runs.
It did seem like a good toss to win and when Manchester hammered 57/1 in the Powerplay, we got the feeling that London had conceded probably 10 runs too many. And if you check the result, the difference margin is exactly 10 runs. The Spirit started well in their chase too, but nowhere close to how The Originals did, in terms of run rate. They managed just 23/0 in the Powerplay, as both openers were like a cat on a hot tin roof against the seaming new ball. Things managed to ease out post the Powerplay and David Warner kept his side in the hunt but unfortunately for him, got no support from the other end after the opening wicket. The Spirit were 75/0 at one stage - but Williamson's wicket just set the dice rolling and the others found it difficult to adapt to the surface.
The crowd is beside itself. The Originals gain their first win of the season and their 6-match losing streak at home has come to an end. This victory lifts them from the bottom to 6th spot and they are just behind London Spirit, who are at 5th!

WIDE. A tie is still on. Down the leg side, flick shot missed.
Liam Dawson walks in next, at number 8, replacing Jamie Overton.
OUT! JAMIE OVERTON IS RUN OUT! A length ball, around middle, Overton works it through square leg. Calls for two but there isn't any. Mark Chapman comes in from the deep and returns the throw to the keeper, where Jos Buttler collects it in front, turns around, ala Brendon McCullum style and disturbs the stumps. Overton is nowhere in the frame. He departs for 19 (7) and from 75/0, London Spirit are now 150/6! Equation - 14 runs, 2 balls.

FOUR! Sliced away! Full and wide outside off, Jamie Overton reaches out and slices it between short third and backward point for a boundary!
Last set. 19 runs needed. Any miracle left? Scott Currie to finish. 1/18 in 15 balls, with 8 dots.

Short and outside off, Jamie slaps it to Heinrich Klaasen at deep point, but does not take the single.
