Chepauk Super Gillies have pulled off a sensational heist and once again proved why they’re the team to beat this season. This thrilling win also seals a top-two finish for them in the league stage. M Silambarasan struck early with the ball, but for a major part of the chase, it was all Trichy Grand Cholas as nothing seemed to go CSG's way. Still, they hung in by squeezing out a few tight overs to stay in the contest. The momentum finally swung when Prem Kumar delivered a game-changing spell, breaking the crucial 82-run stand and removing both set batters. CSG capitalised on that breakthrough to build pressure, though a couple of dropped catches and misfields allowed Sanjay Yadav to keep TGC in the hunt. With 12 needed off the final over, debutant Rohith Suthar rose to the occasion, held his nerve, and etched his name into the history books by sealing a dramatic 4-run win.
Earlier in the game, Chepauk Super Gillies put up a competitive total, thanks to a brilliant 106-run partnership between Baba Aparajith and Vijay Shankar, with both batters notching up well-crafted fifties. Trichy Grand Cholas’ bowlers put in a fairly disciplined shift, with all of them picking up a wicket apiece, barring Sanjay Yadav, ensuring the scoring never completely got out of hand.
Despite losing an opener early, Trichy Grand Cholas got off to a solid start in the chase, with skipper Suresh Kumar leading from the front and Jagatheesan Kousik providing steady support. The duo showed great composure under pressure, rotating the strike smartly and finding the boundaries at regular intervals. But the momentum shifted suddenly as both well-set batters fell in quick succession, trying to up the ante. Sanjay Yadav reignited hope with a brisk 29 off 19 balls, but his dismissal in the final over when just 6 were needed off 3 proved to be the final blow. TGC ultimately fell agonisingly short by 4 runs.
What a steal from Chepauk Super Gillies! Just when it looked like the game had slipped away, they pulled off a dramatic win to stay unbeaten this season. Debutant Rohith Suthar turned out to be the unlikely hero, holding his nerve and defending the total in the final over. A heartbreaking loss for Trichy Grand Cholas, who were in control for large parts but now slump to just one win, and their playoff hopes take a serious blow.
