The third Test between India and England at Lord’s has brought together legends, dignitaries, and cricket fans from across the world. From Sachin Tendulkar to Brett Lee and even UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Lord’s is buzzing with big names. But one name that fans hoped to see — Virat Kohli — is missing from the scene, even though he’s just around the corner.
Kohli’s Nearby But Staying Away From the Spotlight
Virat Kohli is in London and lives right near the Lord’s Cricket Ground in the upscale St. John’s Wood area. However, he’s chosen not to attend the match, despite being only minutes away. Speaking on air, Dinesh Karthik shared that Kohli has no plans to visit the stadium.
“He’s right near Lord’s… but he has daddy duties to take care of,” Karthik said, hinting at Kohli’s current focus on family life.
From Wimbledon to Yuvraj’s Charity Event — But No Cricket Yet
Kohli was last seen earlier this week at Wimbledon, where he watched Novak Djokovic in action, and later at a charity event hosted by Yuvraj Singh. But those brief appearances might be all we’ll see of him publicly for now.
Despite the Lord’s Test taking place in his own backyard, Kohli appears to be in no rush to step back into the cricket spotlight.
Family First for the Former Captain
At 36, and having retired from Tests and T20Is, Kohli seems content embracing a quieter life off the pitch. He’s currently spending time with wife Anushka Sharma and their two children — daughter Vamika and infant son Akaay. Reports from UK media suggest Kohli has declined offers to attend major matches, including the WTC final and even a possible County stint with Middlesex.
When Will Kohli Return? Maybe August
Kohli’s next appearance in Indian colors could come as soon as August, if the BCCI accepts Sri Lanka’s proposal for a short ODI series. Having shifted his focus solely to the 50-over format, Kohli is expected to return for limited-overs assignments later this year.
Quiet Off the Field, Loud in Support
Though staying away physically, Kohli did share his support after India’s commanding win at Edgbaston. He praised captain Shubman Gill and the team on social media, making his presence felt in his own way. For now, though, Kohli seems happy watching the action from afar — a legend taking a well-earned break, while life and cricket carry on at Lord’s.
