Kohli’s match-winning century in Ranchi has lifted him above Shubman Gill in the ICC ODI Rankings, bringing him within touching distance of Rohit Sharma’s No.1 spot.
Kohli’s Ranchi Masterclass Pushes Him to No.4
Virat Kohli has climbed to fourth place in the latest ICC ODI Rankings released on Wednesday, courtesy of his magnificent 135 against South Africa. With Rohit Sharma retaining the top position and extending his lead over Daryl Mitchell, Kohli’s surge adds more excitement to India’s dominance in the list.
Kohli was at his fluent best in the series opener at Ranchi, smashing a 120-ball 135 to script India’s 17-run win. The knock marked his 52nd ODI century, his third at Ranchi, and his first since February. He also shared a crucial 136-run stand with Rohit Sharma, who contributed a valuable 57 as India posted a challenging 350.
Gill Drops a Spot as Injury Delays His Return
Shubman Gill slipped to fifth after missing the ODI series due to a neck injury sustained during the Kolkata Test. Kohli now has 751 rating points, leaving him just 32 points behind Rohit Sharma, keeping the race for No.1 alive as the South Africa series continues.
Kohli enjoyed the No.1 position for more than three years during the previous decade. Since being overtaken by Babar Azam in 2021, this series presents one of his best chances to push back toward the top.
Kuldeep Yadav Moves to No.6 in Bowling Rankings
India also saw movement on the bowling charts. Kuldeep Yadav’s four-wicket spell in Ranchi helped him rise to sixth place among ODI bowlers. With 641 rating points, he has leapfrogged Mitchell Santner and now stands as India’s highest-ranked ODI bowler.

- Abhishek Sharma tops the batting rankings with 920 points, maintaining a strong lead over Phil Salt.
- Varun Chakravarthy remains among the top bowlers with 780 points, reinforcing his consistency in the format.
