Cricket South Africa (CSA) has officially confirmed the venues for the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
South Africa will stage the majority of the action with 44 matches spread across Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, East London, and Paarl. The remaining 10 matches will be shared between Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Organising Committee Announced
Alongside the venue announcement, CSA also introduced the Local Organising Committee Board (LOC), chaired by former South African cabinet minister Trevor Manuel as Independent Chairman.
CSA Board Chairperson Pearl Maphoshe expressed the board’s ambition to deliver a truly global and inclusive event:
“CSA’s vision is to stage a global, inspiring event which will reflect the face of South Africa — diverse, inclusive, and united. The tournament will be vibrantly different in its style and atmosphere, creating unforgettable experiences for players, fans, and partners.”
Tournament Format
The 2027 edition will feature 14 teams, divided into two groups of seven. The top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six stage, a format previously used during the 2003 World Cup.
- Automatic Qualification: South Africa and Zimbabwe (hosts).
- Direct Entry: Top eight teams in the ICC ODI rankings as of March 31, 2027.
- Qualification Pathway: All other teams, including Namibia, must qualify through the ICC system. Namibia, despite being a co-host, is not assured of a place as they are not a full ICC member.
Historical Context
This will be the 14th edition of the ODI World Cup, scheduled for October–November 2027. It will be the second time South Africa and Zimbabwe co-host the event, the first being in 2003. Namibia, however, will be hosting World Cup matches for the very first time.
Australia are the defending champions, having defeated India in the 2023 World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
