Vaibhav Suryavanshi Breaks World Record for Most Sixes in Youth ODIs at Just 14

Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name into cricketing history with a breathtaking performance against Australia U19, breaking the world record for the most sixes in Youth ODIs. At just 14 years old, Suryavanshi surpassed the previous record of 38 sixes held by Unmukt Chand, achieving this remarkable feat in just 10 innings.

A Patient Start and Explosive Finish

Suryavanshi’s knock of 70 runs was a mix of calm patience and explosive power. For much of his innings, he played with a strike rate of just over 100, taking his time to settle in. At the end of the first 10 overs, he was 20 off 38 balls, with only two fours and a six to his name. The Australian bowlers put up a solid challenge, forcing him to bide his time.

However, once the fielding restrictions were lifted, the young left-hander unleashed his true potential. In the 12th over, he took on Hayden Schiller, smashing him for two sixes and a four. But it was the following over, delivered by John James, that saw Suryavanshi produce a jaw-dropping straight six over long-off, a shot that left everyone in awe.

Breaking the Record in Style

Suryavanshi’s record-breaking moment came in the next over, bowled by Australia U19’s fastest pacer, Kasey Barton. He sent the ball sailing for his 39th six, surpassing Unmukt Chand’s record of 38 career sixes in Youth ODIs. What made the achievement even more impressive was that Suryavanshi managed to break the record in less than half the number of innings—Unmukt had played 21 innings to hit 38 sixes, while Suryavanshi needed just 10.

A Knock to Remember

The Bihat-born batter didn’t stop there. He added a couple more boundaries before his eventual dismissal, where he tried to clear the boundary once again, only to be caught off the bowling of Yash Deshmukh. His 70-run knock off 68 balls included five fours and six sixes, making it a truly memorable innings. It was also his first-ever half-century on Australian soil in Youth ODIs.

Team Effort Takes India to 300

In addition to Suryavanshi’s brilliance, Yash Deshmukh also played a vital knock, contributing 70 runs off 74 balls. After their dismissals, the Indian innings wobbled a bit, but Abhigyan Kundu stepped up with an excellent 71 off 64 balls, guiding India to a solid total of 300 runs in 49.4 overs.
