Temba Bavuma will lead South Africa in the two-match Test series against India. Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced a full-strength 15-member squad on Monday. His return adds experience and stability to the Proteas lineup ahead of a challenging tour.
The series begins on December 14 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The second Test will be played in Guwahati from December 22.
Bavuma Boosts the Squad
Bavuma missed the recent Pakistan series because of injury. Now fit again, he is ready to lead the team. The 35-year-old will skip the upcoming white-ball games but will feature in South Africa A’s matches against India A as preparation.
He replaces David Bedingham, who was part of the previous Test squad. Bavuma’s return is the only change in the batting group.
Proteas Name Strong Bowling Attack
South Africa have gone with three spinners: Keshav Maharaj, Simon Harmer, and Senuran Muthusamy. Prenelan Subrayen, who played against Pakistan when Maharaj was injured, has not been selected this time.
The pace attack includes Kagiso Rabada, Corbin Bosch, and Marco Jansen. Notably, Lungi Ngidi has been left out.
Coach Conrad Backs Core Group
Proteas head coach Shukri Conrad said the team wanted to keep the same core from the Pakistan series.
“We’ve kept the bulk of the squad that competed in the two-match series against Pakistan. Those players showed real character and fought hard to come from behind and draw that series,” he said.
He added that India will be a tough challenge.
“We are anticipating a similar challenge in India. Many of the players who stood up in those conditions will again be key for us.”
