Rohit Sharma is back on top of the cricketing world. The Indian skipper has reclaimed the No.1 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings ahead of India’s three-match series against South Africa, starting November 30 in Ranchi.
Rohit moved past New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell after the Kiwi batter sat out the final two ODIs in New Zealand’s 3-0 sweep of the West Indies. That opening allowed Rohit—who has been in strong ODI form this year—to return to the summit at just the right time.
Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli held their positions at fourth and fifth, continuing to stay clear of Pakistan’s Babar Azam, who remains sixth. Shreyas Iyer slipped one spot to ninth after a dip in recent performances.
Ranking Shifts Around the World
There was movement elsewhere on the list too. New Zealand’s rising star Rachin Ravindra inched up to 12th, while Devon Conway improved to 31st. In the Caribbean camp, West Indies captain Shai Hope jumped to eighth after a brilliant unbeaten ton against New Zealand helped strengthen his standing among ODI batters.

Rohit Named Ambassador for 2026 T20 World Cup
Off the field, Rohit also received another major honour. ICC Chairman Jay Shah announced that the Indian opener will serve as the official ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
Rohit has been one of the format’s most enduring performers, featuring in 47 T20 World Cup matches across nine editions. He has scored 1,220 runs at an average of 34.86 and a strike rate of 133.04. After leading India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title in Barbados, he bowed out of T20I cricket on a high.
Global Rankings: Raza Creates History, Starc Climbs in Tests
