Rohit Sharma is putting in the hard yards ahead of India’s three-match ODI series against Australia, starting October 19. The former captain will play only as a batter this time, and he wants to make a strong statement against one of the toughest teams in world cricket.
Focused Training Ahead of a Tough Tour
India’s ODI campaign will begin at Optus Stadium in Perth on October 19, followed by games in Adelaide (October 23) and Sydney (October 25). After retiring from T20Is and Tests, Rohit has shifted his full focus to the 50-over format.
According to Revsportz, he spent three hours training at Reliance Corporate Park in Navi Mumbai earlier this week. He personally arranged the session, where eight to ten net bowlers bowled to him under the guidance of Mumbai Indians physio Amit Dube.
Rohit worked specifically on playing short-pitched deliveries and mastering horizontal-bat shots. His main objective was to prepare for the extra pace and bounce expected in Australian conditions. By focusing on these technical aspects, he aims to start the series strongly from the very first match.
Rohit Shares His Thoughts on Facing Australia
Speaking at the CEAT Cricket Awards later that day, Rohit talked about his excitement for the upcoming challenge. He explained that delivering strong performances across all formats had always been a source of pride for him and that mindset rubbed off on the team too.
“I love playing against Australia. I enjoy touring there because it’s always a challenge and the crowd is passionate about the game,” he said. “Having played there several times, I know what to expect. Hopefully, we can put on the kind of performance India is known for.”
Determined to Make an Impact Again
Rohit recently led India to the ICC Champions Trophy title but stepped aside as ODI captain shortly after. Now, he is focused on contributing with the bat and helping the team succeed.
With sharp preparation, experience in Australian conditions, and renewed motivation, Rohit looks ready to take on one of the most demanding challenges in international cricket. This ODI series could mark the beginning of another successful chapter in his career.
