Ravindra Jadeja Stays Calm After Heavy Setback, Says Loss to South Africa Won’t Impact India’s Future

India ended Day 4 in Guwahati facing a near-impossible task: chasing 549 against South Africa with two wickets already gone. Despite having three full sessions left to play out for a draw, the situation looks grim.

India’s once-invincible home aura—unbroken from December 2012 to October 2024—has dimmed sharply. After the 0–3 defeat to New Zealand last year, the team now appears headed toward another home series loss, this time at the hands of South Africa.

Jadeja’s Measured, ‘Win-Win’ Response

Addressing the media at the Barsapara Stadium, Ravindra Jadeja struck a calm and realistic tone. Despite the looming defeat, he insisted that the result wouldn’t affect India’s next assignment in Sri Lanka in August.

Jadeja, who has taken seven wickets in the match, said the team’s immediate goal is simply to battle through Day 5 and salvage a draw.

He said:

“I don’t think it will affect the next series. Nobody wants to lose at home, but we’ll try our best. Hopefully, we can save the Test. Even if we don’t win the series, drawing this match will still be a win-win situation for us.”

A Crucial Learning Curve for India’s Young Core

The 36-year-old all-rounder highlighted that this setback, though disappointing, will ultimately benefit India’s younger players—Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Dhruv Jurel, and Washington Sundar—who are still settling into international cricket.

“Look, the youngsters are in a learning phase. Their careers are just beginning. No matter the format, international cricket is not easy—it’s always challenging,” Jadeja said.

Losses Expose Inexperience; Wins Often Don’t

Jadeja pointed out a recurring pattern: when India lose at home, the inexperience of the younger players becomes the focus. But when India win, the same youthfulness is overlooked.

“In India, if you play 3–4 youngsters and lose, it feels like the whole team is inexperienced. That gets highlighted. But when you win at home, people don’t think it’s a big deal,” he explained.

He added that handling tough moments like these will help the youngsters mature faster, ultimately strengthening India’s future.
