Pakistan Pacer Usman Shinwari Retires from International Cricket After Six-Year National Team Snub

Usman Shinwari, the left-arm fast bowler, has announced his retirement from international cricket after a six-year career with Pakistan, during which he played 34 matches. His last appearance for Pakistan came in 2019, marking the end of his international journey.

Career Overview

Shinwari made his debut in 2013, playing his first T20I against Sri Lanka, before going on to debut in ODIs and Tests. Over his career, he featured in 17 ODIs and 16 T20Is, claiming 34 wickets in ODIs and 13 wickets in T20Is.

His sole Test match appearance came in December 2019, against Sri Lanka, which also turned out to be his final outing in red-ball cricket.

Notable Performances

Shinwari’s standout moment came early in his career when he claimed a five-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in Sharjah during just his second ODI. He repeated this feat in 2019, once again taking five wickets against Sri Lanka in his penultimate ODI appearance.

Participation in Asia Cup

Usman was also part of the Pakistan squad during the 2018 Asia Cup, further solidifying his role in Pakistan’s cricketing history.

Pakistan’s Recent Triumph

Meanwhile, Pakistan recently triumphed in a T20 tri-nation series, defeating Afghanistan by 75 runs in the final at Sharjah. Mohammed Nawaz’s brilliant five-wicket haul, which included a hat-trick, played a key role in their victory. The win was significant, as Pakistan wrapped up the series with four wins and just one loss.

As Pakistan gears up for their Asia Cup campaign, they will face Oman on September 12 in Dubai, with hopes high for another successful run in the tournament.
