Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a new-look 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, set to take place from July 20 to 24, 2025 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. With senior players Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf unavailable, Salman Agha has been named captain to lead a youthful side as Pakistan continues to build toward the T20 World Cup 2026.
Shadab Khan, a regular vice-captain and frontline spinner in Pakistan’s white-ball squads, has been ruled out as he continues rehabilitation after undergoing shoulder surgery. Meanwhile, Haris Rauf has suffered a hamstring injury, which has not only kept him out of this series but also the playoff matches of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025, where he was part of the San Francisco Unicorns. Alongside these two key players, others such as Irfan Khan, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Wasim, and Naseem Shah have also been left out from the squad that played the last T20I series against Bangladesh at home in May–June.
The squad sees the inclusion of several uncapped and emerging players, giving them a platform to showcase their talent at the international level. Medium pacer Ahmed Daniyal and left-arm quick Salman Mirza are both uncapped and have been rewarded for their domestic and PSL performances. Left-arm wrist spinner Sufiyan Muqeem, although having only 10 T20Is under his belt, brings variety to the bowling attack. Promising top-order batter Hasan Nawaz, who made his debut earlier this year, has played eight T20Is so far, while Abbas Afridi, the most experienced among the newcomers, has featured in 21 T20Is since his debut in 2024.
Strong PSL Performances Behind Call-Ups
Several of the selected players stood out during the PSL 2025 season. Abbas Afridi was among the tournament’s top bowlers, taking 17 wickets in 11 matches for Karachi Kings. Salman Mirza made the most of his limited opportunities, claiming 9 wickets in just 4 games for Lahore Qalandars. With the bat, Hasan Nawaz was a revelation for Quetta Gladiators, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer with 399 runs in 10 innings at an impressive strike rate of 162.19.
Series Context and Coaching Oversight
This series marks Pakistan’s second T20I assignment under new white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, as the team builds toward the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
