His performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy was even more stunning, amassing 779 runs in just eight innings with an average of 389.50, including five centuries. His strong showings led to his long-awaited recall to the Indian side.
However, his international return was underwhelming. Despite promising starts, he failed to convert them into big scores, including a crucial opportunity in the Lord’s Test.

Pathan also pointed out that Nair showed technical weaknesses throughout the series, especially with his struggles against short-pitched deliveries.

“At the Oval, when the bouncers were used, he looked shaken. He built up nicely at times, but then played a loose shot and got out. It was that inconsistency that cost him.”
