India’s senior selection committee has announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies — and there’s a notable omission. Middle-order batter Karun Nair, who was part of India’s Test setup in the past, has been left out of the squad for the home series beginning October 2.
Gill to Lead as India Stick With Core Squad
The first Test will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from October 2 to 6, followed by the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from October 10 to 14.
The selectors have decided to continue with Shubman Gill as captain, keeping faith in the young leader who guided India during the five-match series against England. Most of that core squad has been retained for this series as India look to start the 2025–26 home season on a strong note.
Pant Misses Out, Jadeja Named Vice-Captain
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will not feature in the series after suffering a foot injury on Day 1 of the fourth Test against England in Manchester. In his absence, senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been appointed vice-captain.
Tamil Nadu’s Narayan Jagadeesan and Dhruv Jurel will share wicketkeeping duties, while Axar Patel returns to the red-ball setup after more than 18 months on the sidelines. The selectors have also retained experienced pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj along with spin options Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar.
