Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood has praised England’s batting unit ahead of the Ashes 2025, singling out Joe Root and Harry Brook for their exceptional form. He described the English line-up as one of the strongest he has faced in his career.
England’s Strong Batting Line-Up
Speaking at an event promoting Play Cricket Week, Hazlewood highlighted the depth and talent in England’s batting. He specifically mentioned Joe Root and Harry Brook, who currently top the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings.
“England has played on fairly flat wickets recently, and after a dry summer, they might be getting used to spin now. But I think Harry Brook will adapt. He’s a good player, ranked highly for a reason, and will be a tough challenge. Being relatively new, he can play freely without pressure,” Hazlewood said, as quoted by ICC.
Hazlewood on Joe Root
Hazlewood also spoke about No.1 ranked Test batter Joe Root, who is looking to end his century drought in Australia.
“When Root first played here, it was a different attack with Johnson, Harris, and Siddle. Gaz (Nathan Lyon) has been around a long time now, but Joe’s probably in the form of his life as well. They have an incredible top seven, which makes them a real challenge,” Hazlewood added.
Root has played 14 Tests in Australia since debuting in 2013, scoring 892 runs at an average of 35.68. He has been in outstanding form recently. In the five-Test series against India, Root surpassed former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest run-getter in Men’s Test history. He also became the first batter to reach 6,000 runs in the ICC World Test Championship.
Ashes 2025 Outlook
England will rely on Root’s form as they aim to secure their first Test series win in Australia since 2015. The Ashes 2025 series kicks off on November 21 in Perth.
