India’s top pacer Jasprit Bumrah hit back at former cricketer Mohammad Kaif after Kaif criticized his bowling strategy in the Asia Cup 2025. The debate went viral on social media.
Kaif Questions Bumrah’s Death Over Strategy
Kaif suggested that Bumrah avoided death overs to protect himself from injuries. He noted that under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy, Bumrah bowled three consecutive overs at the start instead of splitting overs across powerplay, middle, and death. Kaif warned that this approach could weaken India against stronger teams in the World Cup.
Kaif wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“Bumrah under Rohit would generally bowl overs 1, 13, 17, 19. Under Surya, he bowled three overs at the start. To avoid injury, he prefers bowling when warmed up. 1 over in the last 14 is a huge relief for batters. Against stronger teams, this could hurt India.”
Bumrah Responds Confidently
Bumrah did not hold back. He posted:
“Inaccurate before, inaccurate again.”
He clarified that Kaif’s assumptions were wrong. The BCCI manages his workload carefully after his back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, which kept him out of two Tests against England.
Strong Performance Despite Caution
Bumrah troubled the top order in the Super 4 clash against Bangladesh. When he did not bowl in the death overs, Shivam Dube and Kuldeep Yadav took over. This plan has worked well so far.
The BCCI’s strategy balances player safety and India’s bowling strength. It ensures Bumrah can perform effectively in key moments.
Bumrah’s reply sends a clear message: speculation about his fitness or overs does not match reality. He remains ready to deliver for India when it matters most.
