Ishan Kishan to Join India’s Test Squad in England After Rishabh Pant’s Injury: Report

Ishan Kishan is set to make a dramatic return to India’s Test squad after Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the remainder of the series due to a toe fracture. The BCCI, under the guidance of Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar, has decided to bring Kishan into the squad for the upcoming Test at The Oval. While Dhruv Jurel will take over as the primary wicketkeeper for the final Test in Manchester, Ishan will serve as the backup keeper.

Ishan Kishan will be added to the squad for the fifth Test as Pant is unavailable for the match from July 31 to August 4,” a report from The Indian Express confirmed.

Ishan Kishan’s Roller-Coaster Year: A Comeback Story

Ishan’s year has been a roller-coaster ride. In 2024, he was removed from the BCCI’s Central Contract list for not meeting the board’s requirement of playing domestic cricket. However, after turning out for Jharkhand in the domestic season, he earned back his contract in April 2025. Currently, Ishan is playing for Northamptonshire in County Cricket Division One, where he’s in solid form, with scores of 87 and 77 in his recent outings.

In the 2025 IPL, Ishan impressed with Sunrisers Hyderabad, scoring 354 runs from 14 matches, including a blazing 45-ball century on his debut for the franchise. His explosive debut century against Rajasthan Royals has since become one of the standout moments of the season.

Although Ishan’s Test experience is limited to two matches, his impact in ODIs and T20Is has been undeniable. In December 2022, he made history by becoming the youngest player to score a double-century in ODIs, breaking Chris Gayle’s record with a blistering 200 off just 126 balls.
