The India Champions have withdrawn from the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, refusing to play their semifinal match against Pakistan Champions, citing ongoing diplomatic tensions between the two nations. This marks the second time in the tournament that India has boycotted a fixture against Pakistan, having also opted out of their group stage clash earlier.
A Bold Stand: “Even If It Was the Final, We’d Do the Same”
India’s decision to forfeit wasn’t taken lightly—but it was firm. An insider from the squad told TimesofIndia.com that no sporting title could ever outweigh national pride.
“We are not playing against Pakistan, not even if it were the final. For us, the country always comes first. We’ve worked our whole lives to earn the Indian jersey, and we will never compromise our values. Bharat Mata ki Jai!”
With the forfeit, Pakistan Champions automatically progress to the WCL 2025 final. Meanwhile, the second semifinal between South Africa Champions and Australia Champions will go ahead as planned.
WCL Responds: “Public Sentiment Must Be Respected”
In a statement released on Wednesday, WCL organizers confirmed India’s withdrawal and expressed their support for the team’s choice.
“At WCL, we believe in the unifying power of sport. But public sentiment must always be honored. We respect the India Champions’ decision and the Pakistan Champions’ readiness to play.”
The announcement confirmed that the semifinal had been cancelled and that Pakistan would advance to the final by default.
Ticket Refunds for India vs Pakistan Semifinal
Fans who had purchased tickets for the now-cancelled India vs Pakistan semifinal will be refunded 50% of their purchase. Warwickshire County Cricket Club issued a statement noting that refunds will be processed automatically via the original payment method within 30 days.
By choosing to walk away from a potential title shot, the India Champions have made it clear: for them, the tricolor on their chest matters more than any trophy.
