India A Create History, Become First Team to Chase 400+ in A Tests

Dhruv Jurel’s India A side etched their names in the record books on Friday by pulling off a remarkable chase of 412 runs against Australia A, becoming the first team ever in A Tests to successfully chase a 400-plus target. The historic win was powered by a magnificent century from KL Rahul, a ton from Sai Sudharsan, and a vital half-century from skipper Jurel.

Rahul and Sudharsan Lead Record-Breaking Chase

Chasing a mammoth target of 412, openers KL Rahul and Narayan Jagadeesan provided a solid start with an 82-run partnership. Jagadeesan departed for 36, while Rahul had to retire hurt due to fever. Despite losing Devdutt Padikkal and nightwatchman Manav Suthar cheaply, India kept their composure.

Rahul returned on Day 4 and stitched together a crucial 78-run stand with Sai Sudharsan. Sudharsan went on to score a brilliant 100, further strengthening India’s chase.

Match-Winning Partnerships Seal the Victory

After Sudharsan’s dismissal, Rahul found an able ally in captain Dhruv Jurel, and the pair added 115 runs for the fifth wicket. Jurel’s composed 56 kept India on course before falling to Corey Rocchiccioli. Rahul then shared a final stand of 31 runs with Nitish Kumar Reddy, taking India past the finish line and into the record books.

Australia A’s bowling attack, with just eight Test caps combined, struggled against India’s experienced batters. India began the final day at 169/2, still needing 243 runs, but showed remarkable resilience to chase it down.

A Test for the Ages

Australia A had posted 420 in their first innings, thanks to valuable contributions from Sam Konstas (49), Nathan McSweeney, Jack Edwards, and Todd Murphy. India responded with just 194, with Sudharsan (75) being the standout.

In their second innings, Australia were bowled out for 185, setting India a daunting target of 412. Despite the odds, Jurel’s men scripted a memorable comeback, sealing a victory that will go down as one of the greatest in A Test history.
