Gautam Gambhir–Rishabh Pant Get Timely Advice Ahead of 2nd Test

As India prepares for the second Test in Guwahati, experts believe the team needs clarity, patience, and a consistent approach — especially with young players stepping in.

Sai Sudharsan Expected to Replace Injured Shubman Gill

With Shubman Gill ruled out due to a neck injury, Sai Sudharsan is likely to take his place in the playing XI.

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Saba Karim has strongly urged the management to give the young left-hander a proper run in Test cricket instead of juggling between options.

Karim said that Sudharsan, who was overlooked for the first Test at Eden Gardens — which India lost by 30 runs — deserves consistent backing if India truly sees him as a long-term investment.

“Back Him Consistently”: Saba Karim’s Message to Team India

Speaking on JioStar’s Game Plan, Karim emphasised the need for stability in both selection and mindset.

He said:

“India should return to a combination of two seamers and three spinners for Guwahati. Strengthening the batting is critical because young players haven’t been performing well, particularly at home. If you’ve invested in someone like Sai Sudharsan, then give him enough opportunities to showcase his ability. Trust helps players express themselves freely.”

Sudharsan has already played five Tests since debuting in England, scoring 273 runs with two half-centuries. His best performance came against the West Indies in New Delhi, where he scored 87 and 39 to help India clinch a 2–0 series sweep.

Anil Kumble’s Advice: “Mindset Matters More Than Conditions”

Former India head coach and legendary spinner Anil Kumble also shared his perspective ahead of the second Test. Instead of obsessing over pitch conditions, he believes India must adjust their approach.

Kumble said:

“The conditions at Eden Gardens forced batters to think differently, and that led to mistakes. Players must focus on winning sessions rather than scoring quickly. Patience is vital for both batters and bowlers. A mindset change is more important than the pitch.”

India Aim to Level the Series in Guwahati

With Sudharsan likely to step in and senior players expected to adjust their approach, India will look to make the right tactical and mental corrections to square the series 1–1.
