Dream11 has decided to end its sponsorship of the Indian cricket team. The move follows the passing of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025. With the Asia Cup just weeks away, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) now needs a new sponsor.
BCCI Confirms Break, Rules Out Similar Deals
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the news on Monday. He also made it clear that the board will avoid such partnerships in the future.
“BCCI and Dream11 are ending their relationship after the Online Gaming Bill was passed. The board will not tie up with such organisations again,” Saikia told ANI.
Dream11 Walks Away Without Penalty
Dream11 officials met BCCI CEO Hemang Amin in Mumbai to announce their withdrawal. The board will soon float a fresh tender for sponsorship rights. However, Dream11 will not face penalties. The contract allowed an exit if a new law impacted their core business.
A Short But Expensive Partnership
Dream11 replaced Byju’s in July 2023, signing a three-year deal worth ₹358 crore. The company, now valued at $8 billion, also became IPL trophy sponsor in 2020. It brought in stars like MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah as brand ambassadors.
Strong Presence in Global Cricket
The fantasy sports platform also sponsors overseas leagues. It partners with the Caribbean Premier League, is title sponsor of New Zealand’s Super Smash, and works with Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL and WBBL). In 2018, Dream11 also signed a deal with the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Beyond Cricket
Dream11 has built ties in other sports too. It is the official fantasy partner of the Indian Super League (ISL), and also supports the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) and the International Hockey Federation (FIH).
