Babar Azam Equals Unwanted Record for Most Ducks in T20Is for Pakistan

Pakistan’s premier batter Babar Azam had a night to forget in Rawalpindi as he joined an unwanted list in T20I cricket. The former captain was dismissed for a two-ball duck against Sri Lanka on Thursday, equalling the record for the most ducks by a Pakistani player in T20Is.

Babar Falls for a Two-Ball Duck in Rawalpindi

In the sixth match of the ongoing T20I tri-series, Pakistan were chasing 185 when Babar walked in at No. 3. Expectations were high—he is, after all, Pakistan’s leading run-scorer in the format.

But on the final ball of the fourth over, Dushmantha Chameera trapped him lbw, sending him back without scoring.

This was the 10th time Babar has been dismissed for zero in T20Is, a statistic that now puts him in an unflattering tie with Umar Akmal and Saim Ayub.

Despite being Pakistan’s highest run-getter, Babar now finds himself sharing a statistic no top-order batter wants.

Where Babar Stands in the Global T20I Duck List

Globally, Babar isn’t close to the top of the unwanted chart. That record belongs to Sri Lanka’s former captain Dasun Shanaka, who has 15 ducks in 118 T20Is. Several other players, including big names from Ireland and Bangladesh, follow with 13.
