Australia Legend Says Harry Brook Reminds Him of Sachin Tendulkar

As the countdown to the Ashes 2025–26 gathers pace, the spotlight is once again on England’s batting stars—Joe Root, Harry Brook, and others gearing up for the five-Test battle in Australia. Among the many opinions surfacing ahead of the iconic series, one remark has created serious buzz.

It comes from former Australia captain Greg Chappell, who has made a stunning comparison involving England’s young sensation Harry Brook.

Greg Chappell’s Big Statement

When asked which English player he’s most eager to watch this Ashes, Chappell didn’t hesitate—he immediately named Harry Brook.

Although he has only seen Brook on television, Chappell said the batter has impressed him with both technique and temperament.

Calling Brook an “interesting” player, Chappell explained:

“He looks like a really good player. His record suggests that he is a good player.”

“Brook Reminds Me of Sachin” — Chappell

In one of the biggest compliments a young batter can get, Chappell said Brook’s batting reminds him of Sachin Tendulkar in the early years.

He elaborated:

“He reminds me very much of Sachin Tendulkar in Sachin’s early part of his career. Very minimal movement early on, picks off the angles very well, and can score off most deliveries.”

According to Chappell, Australia has historically been a tough testing ground for English batters making their first tour, which makes Brook’s upcoming challenge even more exciting.

Not the First Praise for Brook

This isn’t Chappell’s first glowing review of the 26-year-old. In a column for ESPNcricinfo earlier this year, he wrote that Brook “has the tools to be one of England’s finest batters, arguably their most destructive, in the modern era,” even suggesting he could be Joe Root’s long-term successor.

However, he did warn Brook against falling into the trap of overconfidence—something young, in-form players often struggle with.

Harry Brook’s Test Numbers

Brook’s impressive Test career so far explains Chappell’s admiration:

  • Matches: 30
  • Runs: 2,820
  • Average: 57.55
  • Centuries: 10
  • Fifties: 13
  • 2023 Ashes: 363 runs in 5 Tests, including four fifties

Ashes 2025–26: What’s Ahead

The upcoming Ashes begins on 21 November 2025, with the first Test scheduled in Perth. Australia currently holds the urn after a 2–2 draw in the 2023 series.

With high expectations and now a Tendulkar comparison on his shoulders, all eyes will be on Harry Brook as he enters one of the biggest challenges of his career.
