Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced a 16-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025, which begins on September 9 in the UAE.
Asalanka to Captain, Hasaranga Returns
Charith Asalanka has been named captain of the side. Star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga makes his return after missing the home T20I series against Bangladesh in July and the Zimbabwe tour due to a hamstring injury. Pacer Matheesha Pathirana also finds a place in the squad.
Squad Strength
Sri Lanka’s batting will be led by Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, and Kusal Perera at the top. The middle order will rely on skipper Asalanka, supported by all-rounders Dasun Shanaka, Kamindu Mendis, and Dunith Wellalage. A varied bowling attack, featuring Pathirana, Maheesh Theekshana, and Dushmantha Chameera, adds depth to the squad.
Group and Fixtures
Sri Lanka are placed in Group B alongside Bangladesh, Hong Kong, and Afghanistan. Group A features India, Pakistan, Oman, and UAE.
The defending champions, who last lifted the Asia Cup in 2022, begin their campaign against Bangladesh on September 13 in Abu Dhabi. They will face Hong Kong on September 15 in Dubai, before playing Afghanistan on September 18 in Abu Dhabi.
Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup Record
The island nation is the second-most successful team in Asia Cup history with six titles, behind India’s eight. Their most recent triumph came in 2022.
