At just 14, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already turned heads in IPL 2025. Picked up by Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.10 crore in the mega auction, the Bihar youngster played seven matches and piled up 252 runs. His standout moment came when he blasted a century off just 35 balls — the fastest ton by an Indian in IPL history.
Rayudu’s Big Praise
Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu, speaking on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, showered praise on Suryavanshi’s fearless batting. “His bat speed is extraordinary. Jo uska whip aata hai… I hope nobody changes that. Someone like Lara could guide him — teaching him when to control bat speed and when to play softer. If he learns that, he’ll be an extraordinary talent,” Rayudu said.
‘Don’t Overcoach Him’
Rayudu also urged coaches to give the teenager space to grow. “He should not listen to too many people. Just back his talent. And for coaches, it’s important — usko zyada gyaan mat do. Leave him,” he added, highlighting the need to preserve Vaibhav’s natural instincts.
Dravid’s Role in Grooming Talent
Rayudu believes Suryavanshi will flourish under the mentorship of Rajasthan Royals’ head coach Rahul Dravid. “He’s lucky Rahul bhai is with him. Agar sambhal ke sahi guide karenge, Rahul bhai will take care of him,” Rayudu said, expressing confidence in Dravid’s guidance.
Record-Breaking Feat in Youth ODIs
After shining in the IPL, Vaibhav continued his purple patch on the England tour with India’s U-19 team. In the fourth ODI, the 14-year-old smashed a 52-ball century, setting a world record for the fastest-known hundred in Youth ODIs.
