Ajinkya Rahane, the calm leader behind India’s famous 2020–21 win in Australia, still dreams of a Test comeback. His last appearance was in 2023 against the West Indies. Yet, he remains determined and continues to push hard in domestic cricket.
Tried to Connect—No Response
On Day 3 of the Lord’s Test, Rahane revealed something unexpected. He said he had tried speaking to the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar. But there was no reply.
“I still want to play Test cricket. I’m passionate about it and enjoying my game,” Rahane told Sky Sports.
“I tried reaching out to the selectors, but as a player, some things are beyond your control. I got no response.”
Focused on the Grind
Rahane is not letting this get to him. He stays focused on what he can control. Even during short trips, he carries training gear to stay fit. He is also preparing for Mumbai’s upcoming domestic season.
“I just focus on what I can do—play cricket, enjoy it, and give my best,” he added.
Love for the Red Ball Format
Rahane also spoke about his deep bond with Test cricket. He called it the most challenging and fulfilling format.
“I love playing red-ball cricket. That passion and love for the game are what keep me going.”
Rahane’s Test Numbers
Rahane has played 85 Tests for India. He has scored 5,077 runs at an average of 38.46. His record includes 12 centuries and 26 fifties. He also captained India in six matches, winning four.
Led India to Glory
In 2020, after the Adelaide collapse, Rahane stepped up. With Virat Kohli on paternity leave, Rahane led India to a 2-1 series win in Australia. It was one of the most memorable comebacks in Indian cricket history.
Staying Ready for Another Chance
While a national recall is uncertain, Rahane isn’t giving up. His calm, consistent attitude shows the mindset of a seasoned professional. He’s ready—if and when the opportunity arrives.
