Aaron Finch Predicts Tight ODI Series Between India and Australia

Former Australia captain Aaron Finch expects a thrilling three-match ODI series between India and Australia later this month and has backed the hosts to clinch it 2-1. The series, which will take place in Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney from October 19 to 25, promises another chapter in the storied rivalry between the two cricketing giants.

“It’s always a great contest against India, and having Virat back will bring the best out of him,” Finch told the ICC. “On paper, both teams are evenly matched, but I’d say Australia wins the series 2-1. Not confidently though — India are a great side, and it will be an exciting series to watch.”

Leadership Transition for India

The series will mark a significant transition for India, with Shubman Gill leading the side after Rohit Sharma, who guided them to the 2025 Champions Trophy title, was removed from captaincy. Finch praised the young skipper, saying, “Shubman has already shown leadership skills in T20s and Tests, and this will be no different.”

Despite not being in leadership roles, the experienced duo of Rohit and Virat Kohli will play a vital role in guiding the team. “Having those guys around brings calmness and allows Shubman to bounce ideas off them, both on and off the field,” Finch added.

India’s Squad for the ODI Series

India’s 15-member squad features a mix of experience and youth: Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (VC), Axar Patel, KL Rahul (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel (WK), and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

A five-match T20I series will follow the ODIs, serving as crucial preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup, but all eyes will first be on this closely contested ODI battle.
