The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the Senior Men’s Selection Committee, led by chairman Ajit Agarkar, will meet on Tuesday, August 19 at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai to finalize India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025.
Following the meeting, Agarkar will address the media alongside the India captain in a press conference scheduled for 1:30 PM.
Key names in focus
While Suryakumar Yadav is expected to continue as India’s captain, the spotlight will be on star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has reportedly made himself available for the tournament. The 31-year-old could mark his comeback in the Asia Cup, set to be played in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from September 9 to 28.
The selectors will also weigh options around Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Rinku Singh, all of whom are under consideration.
Women’s team selection on same day
The Senior Women’s Selection Committee will also convene on Tuesday at Wankhede Stadium to finalize India’s squads for two major events — the three-match ODI series against Australia and the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
The Women’s ODI World Cup will be staged across four venues in India and one in Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2, featuring eight teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Australia, England, New Zealand, and South Africa.
Harmanpreet Kaur is set to captain India in the 50-over World Cup for the first time, with Smriti Mandhana as her deputy. The selectors will also decide on Shafali Verma’s possible return to the squad.
