Rishabh Pant has rejoined the Indian squad at Old Trafford on Day 2 of the ongoing fourth Test against England, a day after sustaining a foot injury. Despite being ruled out from wicketkeeping duties for the remainder of the match, the BCCI confirmed that Pant is available to bat in the first innings. Dhruv Jurel will take over as the wicketkeeper in both innings of the match.

BCCI Confirms Pant’s Availability to Bat Despite Injury

Rishabh Pant, who sustained an injury to his right foot on Day 1 of the Manchester Test, will not be performing wicketkeeping duties for the remainder of the match. Dhruv Jurel will assume the role of wicketkeeper. Despite his injury, Rishabh Pant has joined the team on Day 2 and will be available to bat as per team requirements,” the BCCI stated.

Pant’s Injury Incident on Day 1

Pant was batting on 37 in the 68th over of India’s innings when he attempted an audacious reverse sweep to a yorker-length delivery from Chris Woakes. The ball struck his right foot, and although the England review was turned down due to an inside edge, Pant was visibly in pain. The physio rushed to his aid, and he was later carted off the field, retiring hurt.

Scans Confirm Toe Fracture, Pant Ruled Out for Six Weeks

After the day’s play, Pant underwent scans, which revealed a toe fracture. A source close to the developments told Hindustan Times, “Rishabh Pant is ruled out of the series. The scans showed a toe fracture, and he is in significant pain, so there’s no chance of him batting.”

Pant’s Determination to Bat Despite the Injury

Soon after the update from BCCI, Pant was spotted in the Indian dressing room, standing behind coach Gautam Gambhir, engaging in a conversation. It remains unclear at what position Pant will be sent in to bat. India lost a wicket early on Day 2, with Jofra Archer removing Ravindra Jadeja.

Pant’s Injury History in the Ongoing Series

This marks the second injury for Pant in the ongoing series. Earlier in the Lord’s Test, Pant had injured his right-hand finger while fielding, leading to him temporarily leaving the field. Jurel replaced him behind the stumps, but Pant returned to bat in both innings.
