R Ashwin Makes Bold Call on Dhruv Jurel: “I Have No Doubt…”

Ravichandran Ashwin has thrown his full support behind young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel, praising his remarkable Test performances for India. While acknowledging that Rishabh Pant’s return makes Jurel’s selection tricky, Ashwin made it clear he sees a big future for the youngster in the longest format.

Ashwin’s Big Statement on Jurel’s Talent

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said he has “no doubt” about Jurel’s class.

“Against England in Ranchi, the way he batted showed that Dhruv should be playing the next 10 Test matches,” Ashwin said. “But because Rishabh Pant is there, he can keep Dhruv Jurel out of the side.”

Jurel had earlier impressed in India’s opening Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad, scoring a composed maiden century — 125 off 210 deliveries — that highlighted both his temperament and technique.

Why Jurel Is Seen as India’s Future

Ashwin believes Jurel’s consistency makes him more than just a backup wicketkeeper.

“Dhruv Jurel’s class and pedigree are unquestionable. As the second wicketkeeper for India, he’s a lock. I also believe that at some point, he’ll play as a batter for India too,” Ashwin added.

Jurel has already earned praise from several former players for his calmness under pressure and his ability to build long innings.

India Dominant as Windies Struggle

Heading into the second Test in Delhi, India looks in complete control. Yashasvi Jaiswal gave another solid start, KL Rahul continued his red-hot run with three hundreds in his last six Tests, and captain Shubman Gill chipped in with a steady half-century. Centuries from Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja further cemented India’s dominance.

The only concern in an otherwise strong batting lineup has been Sai Sudharsan’s low scores. Although Gill has backed him publicly, Sudharsan will be eager to make a mark knowing others are waiting for their chance.

A Tale of Two Teams

The difference between the two sides is clear — and it’s not just about skills.

  • India walks out with clarity, purpose, and belief.
  • West Indies continue to look lost, stuck in a loop of inconsistency that even their cricketing greats struggle to explain.

With momentum on their side, India will be eyeing another early finish in the series to wrap things up in style.
