Haris Rauf Fined for Abusive Conduct, Denies ‘6-0’ Taunt Was Linked to India

Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has found himself in hot water after an ugly on-field incident during the Super 4 clash against India on September 21. The fiery pacer used abusive language and made aggressive gestures towards Indian players and fans, prompting the BCCI to lodge a formal complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The incident took place near the boundary ropes, where Rauf was seen making a controversial “6-0” hand gesture at the crowd. Before that, he was involved in a heated verbal exchange with Indian batters Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill after Gill smacked a short delivery for a boundary in the fifth over.

ICC Charges and Rauf’s Response

Following the complaint, the ICC conducted a disciplinary hearing on Friday, where Rauf pleaded not guilty to the charges. Despite his denial, he is expected to be fined for “abusive language and aggressive behavior” during the match.

Tensions Boil Over During India Clash

The on-field tension started when Gill pulled off a trademark flat-batted shot through mid-wicket and exchanged a fist bump with Abhishek Sharma. However, Sharma turned around moments later, apparently provoked by Rauf’s comments, leading to a heated confrontation.

Controversial ‘6-0’ Gesture Explained

The “6-0” gesture sparked outrage among Indian fans, who saw it as a political taunt referencing Pakistan’s unverified claim of shooting down six Indian fighter jets during the border skirmish that followed Operation Sindoor. Rauf also mimicked the “downing a plane” motion, seemingly mocking India’s military operations.

The provocation came after Indian supporters chanted “Kohli, Kohli” — a nod to the two match-winning sixes Virat Kohli smashed off Rauf during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Melbourne.

Eyes on the Asia Cup Final

Despite the drama, India and Pakistan are preparing for their third meeting in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 — and this time, it’s in the final. It marks the first time in 41 years that the two rivals will battle for the continental title. India, still unbeaten in the tournament, will look to maintain their dominance, while Pakistan hope to turn the tables after losing twice to their arch-rivals.
