Suryakumar Yadav Praises Oman After India’s Close Call: ‘The Brand of Cricket You Played…’

India survived a major scare in their Asia Cup 2025 Group A clash against Oman at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Chasing 189, Oman looked poised for a historic upset with Aamir Kaleem and Hammad Mirza stitching a 93-run stand for the second wicket. But Kaleem’s dismissal in the 18th over turned the game, and India eventually pulled off a 21-run win.

SKY’s Words of Admiration

After the match, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav met the Oman squad and showered them with praise. He said that not just Oman, but even top cricketing nations, including India, could learn from the way the team approached their chase.

“After the powerplay, any team will try to control the game. In that situation, the way you played, there are many lessons for any team to learn, including us. The energy and the vibe you maintained for each other was special,” SKY told the Oman players.

He highlighted how every Oman player celebrated teammates’ achievements, saying that such spirit is what elevates the game.

Team Spirit Above All

Suryakumar admired Kaleem and Mirza’s fifties and pointed out how the entire Oman team rose to applaud them. For him, this attitude and bonding were more important than statistics.

“This is what makes cricket bigger. Whether you are 60 for 5 or no loss, the energy and culture you carry matter most. When you go to sleep, you should feel you gave your best. Winning or losing is secondary—the attitude defines you,” the India captain said.

Ready for the World Stage

When told about Oman’s upcoming T20 World Cup qualifiers, SKY gave the team his full endorsement.

“This team is ready for the World Cup qualifier. The brand of cricket you played, remember that taste. Carry it forward,” he concluded.
