Madan Lal Slams Mohammad Yousuf Over Derogatory Comments on Suryakumar Yadav

The recent India vs Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup stirred up significant controversy, beginning with a boycott campaign in India due to the recent Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The tensions continued to build during the match, particularly during the toss when Suryakumar Yadav refused to shake hands with Pakistan’s captain Salman Ali Agha. After India’s victory, the team refused to engage in post-match handshakes, leading to Pakistan boycotting the post-match presentation.

The situation escalated when Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) filed an official complaint against match referee Andy Pycroft, accusing him of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. Amid this turmoil, former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Yousuf joined the criticism, making derogatory comments about Suryakumar Yadav and accusing him of influencing umpiring decisions.

Madan Lal Tears Into Mohammad Yousuf

Responding to Yousuf’s remarks, former Indian cricketer and 1983 World Cup winner Madan Lal strongly condemned the ex-Pakistan batter. Speaking to ANI, Lal called Yousuf’s behavior “stupid” and criticized the growing trend of former Pakistani cricketers abusing players from other teams.

Lal said, “Look at how former Pakistani cricketers criticize their own team, showing their frustration. They resort to abusing players from the other team, which reflects badly on them. Abusing anyone is wrong, and we are giving them unnecessary publicity. This is exactly what they want — attention. They use India to create controversy and boost their own platforms. The more they speak negatively about India, the more they gain.”

Refuting Yousuf’s Umpiring Claim

Madan Lal also dismissed Yousuf’s claims about umpire influence, pointing out the presence of DRS (Decision Review System) in modern cricket. “The DRS system is in place. Even if a player is out, they can refer to the third umpire. Sometimes, decisions are wrong, but they get corrected through technology. Why should anyone complain when we have such systems?” he added. Lal emphasized that players should know when to use the DRS effectively.

India’s Dominant Win

Despite the ongoing controversies, India secured a comfortable win by seven wickets. Chasing 128 runs, India reached 131/3 in 15.5 overs, with Suryakumar Yadav playing a match-winning knock of 47 off 37 balls*. On the bowling front, Kuldeep Yadav starred with a brilliant three-wicket haul, helping India restrict Pakistan to 127/9 in 20 overs.
